Floors and tiles get stained with pakka Holi colors especially the area in your veranda and/or your balcony. It will be a smart move to take precautions and tackle the problem immediately.
Since Holi is all about “Rang Barse”, some rang is inevitably going to fall on the floor. You don’t want to spoil those spectacular marble tiles you got last Diwali so that is what you need to do.
If Gulaal falls on your floor, don’t use water to clean it, not even a damp cloth. Sweep it with a broom. If dry pakka color falls on the floor, sweep it immediately with a broom. Remember, you have to act fast so that the color does not get wet. And do clean up before someone walks over it and spreads it all over the house. That would be a disaster.

However, if colored water or moistened pakka color does spill on the floor, this is the way that you remove the stains. Soak the color immediately with the help of a sponge or a cloth. Do not let the color dry. This will cause permanent staining. In case that does happen, you will have to take out the big guns. Use a strong detergent to clean it.
You can also weaken a dry pakka color stain by using baking powder and water. Make a thick paste, allow it to dry on the color spots and after a few minutes wipe it off with a wet sponge or a damp cloth. You could also scrub it out with an old toothbrush.
Gulaal can be simply wiped off using a dry cloth. For pakka/wet color, use a good quality nail polish remover on cotton wool to remove the stains.
If Gulaal falls on upholstery, clean it immediately with a broom or vacuum it. Do not use your hand to dust it off this makes the Gulaal spread all over and get absorbed by the fabric.
If it’s Gulaal, just dust it off. For pakka color marks use a liquid detergent or cleaning solution like Colin. If that does not work, use nail polish remover on the wooden parts of the door and window. For glass, use baking powder and water paste. Apply the past on the stains and let it dry before scraping off.
NOTE: In case of pakka color marks, the sooner you clean it, the better it is.
