20 Outfit Ideas For The Bride's Best Friend: March, 2024

By Somdutta Mazumder

Updated - March 15, 2024 13 min read

There's only one other day in every girl's life, when she encounters the kind of ecstatic excitement her wedding day would bring along, her BFF's wedding day. I would know, my best friend got married in December last year. Watching the girl you grew up with, the girl who knows you better than you know yourself, the girl who snickered at the mention of marriage not too long ago, become the blushing bride she solemnly swore she'll never be, is an experience of a lifetime!

And trying to come up with the perfect outfits for each of those days, a tremendously nerve-wracking ordeal. You obviously don't want to be under-dressed at your own best friend's wedding, but being more OTT than the bride, isn't an option either. Also, her parents and your parents, and an entire judgy party of extended family will be there, so you also have to be slightly sanksaari. So many variables to consider, so many things to do, and very little prep time, trust me, there will be a point when you'll find yourself overly overwhelmed.

Wait, deep breath in, deep breath out. Now, we don't mean to stress you out, we just want to emphasize that you might need a little additional aid. So to help you finalise a dream-like outfit for your BFF's wedding, here's a lookbook with plenty of wedding outfit ideas!

1. Spaghetti Strap Lehenga Top With Drop Beading + Wide Leg pants + Tulle Bolero

We love this wedding outfit idea because of how simple yet dreamy it is. Also, if the idea of running around in a heavy lehenga sounds painful, a pair of wide-leg skirt-like pants is a great wedding fashion solution! The drop beading detail makes the intricately embroidered top even more alluring, and the tulle bolero is just the finishing touch you need. A sleek updo, heavy eyes, and some statement earrings will seal the deal perfectly.

2. Peplum Choli + Palazzos

We love how classy this wedding ensemble is. A well-fitted peplum choli is a very flattering option, and a pair of flowy palazzos is the ideal accompaniment to this elegant top. The colour combination should be subtle and gorgeous, with or wothout heavy embroidery work. Go for a dewy face and bold red lips.

3. Solid Ruffle Saree + Embellished Blouse

Give the tried and tested wedding outfit of a beautiful saree a contemporary twist, by opting for one featuring romantic ruffles. We love this elegant black ruffled saree, with minimal details, paired with a glamorous black/multicolour embellished blouse. You can play around with the blouse design, like going for a mock neck half-sleeve shimmer piece. Simple dangling diamonds on the ears, and a sleek, straight mane will complement this look beautifully.

4. Pink Front Slit Anarkali + White Heavy Palazzo

I think this look is a testament to the fact that you can be both simple and gorgeous with your choice of wedding outfit! The intricately embroidered baby pink Anarkali Kurti is immensely charming, and upon getting paired with the beautiful Chikankari white palazzo pants, this wedding look becomes absolutely beguiling. Don a pair of statement gold earrings, and pull your hair up in a messy updo, letting some loose tendrils frame your face.

5. Asymmetrical Embellished Kurti + Silk Cigarette Pants

Asymmetrical details in ethnic wear have got to be the latest IT trend, and this navy blue and white look more than substantiates why. We love the flowy, Kaftan-like silhouette of the kurti, with the prints and embellishments adding a great dose of flair. This coupled with the asymmetrical high-low hemline makes it a total stunner. The gorgeous Kurti is paired with a solid white pair of cigarette pants featuring an embroidered mesh detail. A pair of pumps, gold drop earrings and loose waves will complete the look.

Walk into your BFF's wedding function wearing this stunning outfit, and you're bound to turn more than a few heads! The solid black one-shoulder top with a draped silhouette and thin strap on the other side, is immensely elegant, to say the least. But the centrepiece of this wedding look is the splendid, pleated Banarasi silk lehenga skirt! A smoky-eye look will complement this look beautifully.

Paired with this are solid palazzo pants in a dreamy organza fabric, along with a statement dupatta featuring a gold ornament.

We love this wedding outfit because it manages to be both beautiful and edgy, in equal measure. Go for an elaborate pulled-back mane, and heavy eyes to seal the deal!

Messy, wind-swept locks and gold statement earrings add the ideal finishing touch to this wedding outfit.

10. Tiered Sharara

Personally, I would consider shararas to be one of my absolute favourite ethnic trends, simply because of how comfy and stylish a fabulous piece can be. It's also versatile enough to be paired with just about any kind of top, from a fusion cropped strappy blouse to a peplum Kurti. In this wedding look, we see a green two-piece comprising of a tiered sharara and a strappy cropped blouse. The all-over gold motifs really bring out the dazzling green colour of this outfit, and a mesh cropped vest jacket with fringe details is the final ace in the hole!

11. Black Choli + Black Lehenga Skirt + Sheer Open-Front Embroidered Flared Jacket

First off, the colour combination in this classy wedding look is utterly splendid. If you have a preference for always keeping it simple, this is one of the wedding guest looks that you can safely go for. The outfit is immensely elegant and sophisticated, and lets you dress up without going overboard. The dusty light blue of this plunge-neck Anarkali combined with the all-over metallic work, makes it a highly fashionable ethnic piece. A printed dupatta, a pulled back updo and some gold danglers complete this charming outfit.

Stand out of the crowd at your best friend's wedding by going for this alluring wedding outfit combination. An off-white full-sleeved peplum top in an intricately embroidered fabric, paired with a beautiful wrap skirt featuring a long side-slit, will let you be both sanskaari and have your red carpet moment at the wedding. We especially love the classic silver nath adding an ethnic-vogue vibe to the whole wedding outfit!

14. Embroidered Saree + Peplum Open-Front Jacket

Another unique spin on your run-of-the-mill wedding saree looks, this combo would make for a delightfully distinguishing look. Pick out a beautiful simple saree decorated with light embroidery in flattering hues, and get an open-front jacket with matching embroidery all over the body. A peplum silhouette to your jacket will further bring out the style quotient. Top off the look with a statement necklace such as this layered, emerald piece, and you're all set to dazzle!

Everything from the off-shoulder neckline to the dramatic puff sleeves, is simply splendid.

A sheer dupatta with details in harmony with the rest of the outfit and a set of bejewelled tassel earrings top off the look wonderfully.

18. Printed Bustier Top + Printed Palazzos + Sheer Angrakha Jacket

This mint-green wedding look manages to be as soothing as it is fashionable. The sheer Angrakha jacket here is the gorgeous focus of attention, lightly sprinkled to perfection with subtle embellishments. Donned under it, is a combination of a solid bustier strappy top and a pair of pretty printed palazzos. Pull your hair back in a sleek bun, and opt for some heavy gold statement jhumkis to top off this wedding outfit.

We recommend: W Black Printed Sleeveless Longline Sheer Ethnic Jacket from Myntra @ INR 749

19. One-Shoulder Asymmetrical Tunic With Tassels + Straight Pants + Matching Broad Belt

Modern yet traditional, classy yet glamourous, this wedding look is a perfect amalgamation of several desirable but opposing fashion adjectives! Honestly, we are totally obsessed with this one-shoulder flowy tunic featuring an eccentric asymmetrical hem. The matching cigarette pants and broad waist belt are the perfect accompaniments to the top piece. All of this, in a silky navy fabric peppered with modern floral embroidery, and you have a stunning wedding outfit at your dispense.

20. Embroidered Jacket With Sheer Puff Sleeves & Embellished Collars + Foil Print Lehenga Skirt

Here's how you can modestly turn several heads in your direction with your choice of wedding outfit. We love this soft berry pink lehenga look by Anushree, comprising of a gorgeous jacket as the top element. The two details of sheer organza dramatic puff sleeves and a heavily embellished collar, are as lovely as it can get. Donned with this is a matching lehenga skirt featuring all-over delicate foil print.
